The Danish guitar wizard Torben Enevoldsen's debut CD "Guitarisma" was originally released on the Dutch label Roxon in December 1998. Now when Torben has teamed up with the Finish Lion Music label his debut album have been re-released with a new bonus track "Zantac" and new artwork. His second album "Heavy Persuasion" which was released last year on the Lion Music label was all instrumental, but on "Guitarisma" there's some vocals by Kenny Lübcke. The music is neoclassical hard rock with reminiscences to Michael Lee Firkins, Yngwie Malmsteen, Lars Eric Mattsson and Joe Satriani. Torben is a great guitarist, and he's the first guitarist I've heard from Denmark in this genre. Although he's got a blending technique there are a lot of melody in the instrumental songs too.The Drum Programming on this album is very good. Usually I'm very critical to Drum Machines, but on this album I never reflected that it wasn't real drums. The Joe Satriani influenced "Maybe Some Day" are one of the instrumental highlights, while "Reach for Perfection" has a direction that I would like Torben to develop on his forthcoming albums. Kenny Lübeke has a very good voice that should've been used much more. The vocal tracks remind a lot of Lars Eric Mattsson's "Obsession" album from 1998.Torben is one of the most potential guitarists I've heard in a long time. I do prefer good guitarists in band situations, but this is however an album filled with delicate guitar compositions.

The debut album from one of my fave new guitar players!! Torben Enevoldsen's debut finally gets a full European release thanks to Lion Music. "Guitarisma" contains 13 tracks of all instrumental rock. Just hearing the licks, and the experimental styles and the surge of power chords, pleases the listener right away and delivers what fans of guitar music want to hear. Why nobody picked up on this album first time around is ironic as it is very very well arranged, performed and produced.
Torben just has a knack for making his songs ring around your head for days on end and the songs just sink in from the first time you hear the chords of 'Just In Case', the infectious Reb Beach meets Michael Lee Firkins 'Brand New World', the furious 'Take Your Pick', the fusion edged 'Dream Come True' with it's Dream Theater style drum pounding, the experimental 'What If...?', through to calmer delicate pieces such as 'Calm Waters', 'Zantac' or the Neal Schon inspired 'For A Friend'.
"Guitarisma" has something for every fan of this genre so make sure you buy this album - an essential release.

Another guitar virtuoso from the Lion Music stable, Torben Enevoldsen is probably best known for his 2000 release "Heavy Persuasion". This album is a re-release of Torben's 1998 release ("Guitarisma" was previously released by Unigreen International in Holland through their ROXON label) with an extra bonus track ("Zantac") and new CD artwork.
Screw the artwork. This guy rocks! The sound of Enevoldsen is a little edgier and modern than Lion Music colleague Lars Eric Mattson's but both master their instruments all the way.
If you have never heard this record but have heard "Heavy Persuasion" you may want to have a long hard listen to this first. "Heavy Persuasion" leans more towards what many would call "progressive" rock, with lots of rhythm changes, and an overall heavier sound.
The music here is more accessible, and will please many a Joe Satriani fan. (Check out "Indian Summer"... catch my drift?) Still, the competition is heavy on the instrumental guitar scene. Great releases last year by 'newcomer' Neil Zaza, and veterans such as Michael Lee Firkins ("Decomposition").
Still, they have all sort of secured an own spot in the wide array of individual styles and Torben has no reason to feel ashamed amongst these names.
Then again, Torben isn't afraid to throw in some vocals here and there. He's accompanied by Carsten Neumann and Christian Rajkai on bass guitar, Kenny Lübcke on vocals, Torben Lysholm programming drums, and - of all people - Lars Eric Mattsson contributing to bonus track "Zantac". Pay special attention to the slower material ("Indian Summer" or "For A Friend"). Living proof of how one can make a guitar sing if he (or she) puts his (or her) mind to it.

Denmark's Torben Enevoldsen started playing the guitar in the early 80's. First influenced by all time greats as Iommi, Blackmore and Van Halen, he later also got influenced by Malmsteen and other contemporary shredders. After practising a lot and playing gigs with bands in Denmark, he got more experienced and started also composing his own hard rock instrumentals. Together with his friend Torben Lysholm, the first tracks were recorded and the demo-cd "Just in Case" was a fact.
With the help from some other guys, some time later nine other tracks were recorded. The result of these sessions is the "Guitarisma" cd, 12 tracks of which 2 of them are with vocals from Kenny Lübcke. Excellent instrumental rock songs, with also some progressive and neo classical influences. Main influences come from Joe Satriani and Jan Cyrka. Originally released on the Dutch Roxon label in 1998, Lion Music bought the rights of it in 2001.
This new version features a bonus track ("Zantac"), new artwork and a better sound.
Also watch out for Torben's second album "Heavy Persuasion", released by Lion Music too!
